Transcript

SUPER: Dr. Casey Chapman

Board-certified gastroenterologist

Dr. Chapman is a paid consultant of AbbVie.

DR. CHAPMAN: I think it’s important to tell your doctor how your IBD symptoms are affecting you.

DR. CHAPMAN: To make the most of your appointment, be specific about what you're experiencing. How often are you going to the bathroom?

DR. CHAPMAN: Has your abdominal pain increased?

SUPER: Are your IBD symptoms impacting your routine?

DR. CHAPMAN: Are symptoms impacting your routine?

DR. CHAPMAN: If a patient says to me “I've had accidents in the last month…I don’t want to leave my house. I don’t know what to do.”

DR. CHAPMAN: This helps me see more of their story, both as my patient, and as a person.

DR. CHAPMAN: Once your doctor has a good idea of your situation, take some time and together cover questions such as “How long should I wait to see if a new treatment is working? Will a different treatment help me manage my IBD? What are the possible benefits and risks of a new treatment?”

DR. CHAPMAN: You may have concerns about effectiveness and other aspects of treatment.

DR. CHAPMAN: This is why partnering with your doctor is so important.

SUPER: Tell your doctor about your symptoms

DR. CHAPMAN: Tell them about your symptoms, large and small.

DR. CHAPMAN: Then they can give you the next steps in your IBD treatment.

DR. CHAPMAN: Remember, your doctor is in your corner.
